Who, what, when, where, and why?

My name is Karla Pierce. I created this site in the summer of 2006, as a Graduate Fellow in the Master of Arts philosophy program (Practical Philosophy and Applied Ethics), at the University of North Florida, Jacksonville.

My first career was in the hospitality industry. For nearly 15 years I worked in a variety of mostly small and local-owned bars, restaurants, cafes, and clubs; in such cities as Seattle, Chicago, Miami, and more. Now in my second career, I am currently a Philosophy instructor at Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), in Jacksonville, Florida. I teach Intro to Applied Ethics, Intro to Philosophy, and more.

I've always been intrigued by what values and principles people variously apply in hospitality relationships and settings. Now, as I continue expanding my knowledge and experience in this area, I want to share what I've learned, here. Ultimately, I want to develop online hospitality ethics courses, multimedia, and, various other education materials.
